James Nesbitt is set to star as a grieving detective in Suspect, a new British crime thriller series based on the Danish hit Forhøret.
The eight-parter's awesome ensemble cast also includes Doctor Who's Sacha Dhawan, Outlander's Sam Heughan, Nip/Tuck alum Joely Richardson, and the great Richard E. Grant. Alongside them, Anne-Marie Duff (Sex Education), Antonia Thomas (Small Axe), Ben Miller (Bridgerton), Niamh Algar (Deceit) and Imogen King (Clique) will all appear, U.K. network Channel 4 announced today in a press release.
Suspect is only the series' working title, but we do have some definite details about the premise, courtesy of Channel 4. Nesbitt is playing Danny Frater, a detective who arrives at the mortuary for a routine ID check, only to find, devastatingly, that the body belongs to his estranged daughter, Christina (King).
He then makes it his mission to find out what happened to her in the days before she died, which involves interviewing the people who were closest to her, including her godfather (Heughan), business partner (Dhawan), and romantic partner (Algar). Frankly, it sounds like it is all going to get incredibly emotional.
Nesbitt said of the series: "I could relate to Danny, with his flaws, vulnerabilities and the devastating situation he faces, from the very first moment I picked up the script. Each episode is an intensely theatrical double-hander, a psychological battle of wits between Danny and another character who may know something about his daughter's untimely death, and I really can't wait to lock horns with my fellow cast members and to lead this incredible array of acting talent."
